Math leads for Mathletes aligns to beginner level as per XYZ book guide, so we started with Level 1 and Level 2 books. My son had been doing well in AOPS and AMC 8. Mistake. The XYZ books are at a different level and you need to finish Math Leads for Mathletes series before you can get full advantage of 105, 106 , 111. Euler's identity, Fermat's last theorem, Toothpick problems are examples of what you will find in Math leads for Mathletes - Book1. Imagine this is the most basic level in XYZ series. This should give you an appreciation of the quality and depth of content. To us, XYZ books has been a must have resource towards AMC 8 & AMC 10 Prep.

This book was wonderfully named. It was rich in good problems and intriguing concepts, all explained in a wonderful manner that leads the reader to want to learn more mathematics. This book explains topics that she previously deemed "boring", such as induction, in a new and inventive manner. The topics were also very intriguing; she particularly loved the chessboard section. The way the book was written also helped her internalize the material as well. She especially loved the spotlights on mathematical history, showing us how rich mathematics is as a branch of art. This book significantly increased my daughter's mathematical knowledge and allowed her to qualify for the AIME this year.

Math Leads for Mathletes is an excellent book. I came to know about this book as our team participated in PurpleComet. This book was very helpful to provide a challenging set of problems for the basic concepts to the students. Concepts are explained very nicely. Also, each problem has a detailed solution which make it easy to understand author's point of view. I recommend it to all students who would like to ace in competitions.

I am a math teacher in an after school learning center. Sometimes, I like to challenge students with clever questions like question 7 of the first section of the book: "What is the remainder when 20132013...2013 (repeated 2013 times) is divided by 333333? I love giving questions that do not seem obvious to me. I found that not only the students, but I myself was engaged in exploring the solution to the question! When I was in high school, I became acquainted with math competitions like AMC, AIME, and USAMO. I remember that I was the only one in my school that took the AIME, and I found that no one else was interested. I was given little guidance and was left in the dark about how to come across questions like the ones shown in this book. The book is worth a handful of other math problem books. Many of the questions are very engaging and challenging. I recommend this book not only to students but instructors as well!"
